Many years ago, in the Bronx Zoo, there was an elephant
named Jimmy, who had an unlikely friend named Candice, a rabbit. They spent their days watching children stare
in awe as their doting parents took photographs and reveled in their simplistic
lives wondering what all the fuss was about.
One day, the leader of the neighboring lion pack decided he wanted some
entertainment so he announced he would host a scavenger hunt, proclaiming to
his subjects that they were to find the” golden egg.” He invited all to
participate, pitting Candice and Jimmy against one another. Once the rules were laid out, each quietly
devised a plan to become a winner. In an
effort to disclose the location of the egg, each knew there were a lot of detailed
stops to be made along the way. Jimmy
decided he would be very precise in his hunt, but Candice, being the smaller
and faster creature that she was, decided she would try to stay one step ahead
and make more than one move at a time. Having
served her well in the past, Candice thought this was the best course of action. After an hour or so, Jimmy was steadily
finding himself closer to the egg and Candice found herself in a frenzy. In her effort to come out on top, she got overwhelmed
and had to backtrack multiple times to re-read the hints at each stop. Jimmy, on the other hand, had been diligent
about what he was doing, and he came out on top. When Candice finally made it to find Jimmy
nestled beside the golden egg, she asked Jimmy how, at his stature, had he
found the egg first. To this, Jimmy
replied, “the hurrier I go, the behinder I get.”
