The Mouse and his search

There once was a Mouse who sought to find his own gift to contribute to the animal kingdom. He saw how the other animals each had their own abilities and talents but failed to see his own. He went to the Peacock and asked the Peacock "How can I become as beautiful as you" the Peacock replied "you can't". The mouse then turned his attention to the Lion and asked him if he can have the courage that the Lion possesses and the lion replied "you can't". The Mouse then turned to the Fox and asked him for his cunningness and the fox again replied as the others have and turned him down, and so the Mouse went and asked many different animals how he can obtain their abilities and they all turned him down. The day came when poachers arrived and captured all the animals except the mouse seeing him as insignificant. The Mouse displayed cleverness by sneaking past the poachers, the courage to climb and gnaw away at their nets and the beauty of putting others before himself and thus setting the animals free. He proved to himself and everyone else that he had within himself all those gifts he saw in others.

Moral: do not underestimate yourself and see the beauty that lies with in you.

  1. I had thought of a similar fable involving a caterpillar considered pathetid and insignificant by others (including a peacock) until it turned into a butterfly, though I posted another. I think you did it beautifully--it is a very good moral for children
