The Last Dragon
Once a long time ago
there was a kingdom where the fiercest animal existed with man...The Dragon! All the people of the land including the strongest warriors
only thought of killing the animal without observing the species.
One warrior went on his own to hunt a
very large dragon that had been recently spotted flying in the air, and which
no one had the courage to face since it was the biggest anyone had ever
seen. After searching for many days through woods and valleys, he lay
down exhausted. He was awakened by a noise and out of nowhere
something grabbed him and lifted him hundreds of feet up. He was in the
dragon's claws, but the beast gently laid him on a rock on a mountain in a
distant land. He pointed out the sights, then took him on an extended tour
to places the warrior would have taken to reach by horse. Saying
good-bye, the dragon spoke: "You see I am not an enemy. I
only breathe fire when someone threatens my family, friends, and my own
life." The warrior rushed back to the kingdom to explain what
had happened, but few believed him. In his absence, other warriors
had located the dragon's nest. Now, not wishing to be eclipsed by the
warrior with his unbelievable tale, they went out as a large group to the nest,
where they killed the babies. They waited until nightfall, when the
dragon arrived, and taking advantage of his shock at seeing the massacre, they
tried to kill it too. Though weakened, the dragon used his fire and the
warriors were killed. That was the last day any man saw a
dragon. Only a few remembered this fantastic being that might have been a
friend of man's, and realized a great mistake had been made. These
few told tales and drew pictures, which has been retold and shown for thousands of years,
are now believed only by little children flying kites.
